In a stunning turn of events, St. Charles Lwanga Junior High School from Zebilla, a team of newcomers, astounded the audience by defeating the reigning two-time regional champions, Christ the King Basic School from Sandema, in this year’s highly anticipated 2023 Brain Battle Quiz Regional Championship.
The clash between these two educational powerhouses was nothing short of a battle, as they fiercely competed for the honor of representing the Upper East Region in the upcoming National Championship. The Brain Battle Quiz, a prestigious Math and Science competition exclusive to Catholic Basic Schools throughout Ghana, was masterfully orchestrated by the Catholic Education Directorate in collaboration with Cocktail Media.
On the July 13, 2023, the Upper East Regional Catholic Education Unit hosted its third edition of the regional competition, with the sole purpose of selecting a deserving representative for the forthcoming national contest in August 2023.
Out of the five schools initially registered to participate, only St. Charles Lwanga JHS and Christ the King Basic School showed up, setting the stage for an intense showdown.
To the utter surprise of the spectators, St. Charles Lwanga, making their first appearance with limited to no prior experience in previous contests, delivered a remarkable performance, securing victory with an impressive score of 90 points against Christ the King’s 72 points.
This unexpected outcome left the former champions in a state of disbelief and admiration for their competitors.
The Regional Manager of Catholic schools, in her address to both schools, expressed unbridled joy at the exceptional performances exhibited by the contestants.
The contest proved to be a closely contested affair, with neither side showing any signs of weakness until the final moments of the last round, where the eventual winner showcased unparalleled dexterity and unwavering determination.
In light of their extraordinary achievements, both St. Charles Lwanga JHS and Christ the King Basic School extended their heartfelt gratitude to the organizers for providing this platform.
They pledged their unwavering support and camaraderie towards one another in their preparations for the national contest, recognizing that they are both strong contenders deserving of consideration.
The stage is now set for the national stage of the Brain Battle Quiz, where St. Charles Lwanga JHS will proudly represent the Upper East Region, eager to showcase their newfound prowess and compete against the finest minds from across the country.
