President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has been projected to win the 2020 presidential election conducted on December 7,2020.
According to provisional results of 270 Constituencies published by media conglomerate, Multimedia, President Akufo-Addo who is the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) candidate has polled 6,640,809 representing 51.30 percent as against his main contender, John Dramani Mahama of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) who polled 6,121,817 votes representing 47.29 percent.
This, the media entity say, gives the incumbent president a lead of about 500,000 ahead of the opposition party’s candidate.
Per their analysis, Mr. Mahama is unlikely to overturn the lead and achieve the required 50 percent plus 1 vote of the total valid votes cast to win the presidential election even if he wins all the votes of the 5 remaining Constituencies.
They have, therefore, called president Akufo-Addo as president-elect of the Republic of Ghana.
“The 5 remaining Constituencies to be published have about 184,000 valid voters. With an average of 78 percent voter turnout, this could translate into about 145,000 votes. If all 145,000 votes are given to John Dramani Mahama, it is statistically impossible for the NDC presidential candidate to achieve 50 percent plus 1. Base on the above, we project Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo to win the 2020 presidential election,” a journalist with the media entity stated.
