The Headmaster of Bongo Senior High School in the Bongo District of the Upper East Region, Anthony Adimazoya has commended the Cadet Corps of the school for helping the school authorities maintain discipline on campus.

Speaking Friday at a brief handing-over ceremony organized by the cadet which saw the leadership of the outgoing members of the cadet corps handover to the second-year students to lead and train the next set of the school’s cadet corps and equally help maintain discipline on campus, the headmaster admonished students of the school to be disciplined in all endeavors.

He also urged the students to go beyond the daily academic activities of the school and participate in co-curricular activities.

The history behind the establishment of the Cadet Corps in schools was to instill discipline and loyalty among students and develop the interest of young people to join the Gold Coast Frontier Force which later became the Ghana Army and now Ghana Armed Forces.

It is on this score that Mr. Adimazoya while expressing gratitude to the outgoing members for helping maintain discipline and admonishing the in-coming cadet corps and its leaders to continue on that trajectory also urged them to take their training seriously since it makes their ability to join the security services a lot easier.

Bongo Senior High School has had its share of student unrest with the school forced to close down in 2019. A phenomenon Mr. Adimazoya who is less than a year as the head of the school hopes to prevent as he calls for the collaboration of the cadet, staff, and students to maintain discipline.

“As I have been telling you, discipline is key to success. If you are not disciplined, there is no way you can make it in whatever way. The last time we had our inter-house athletics competition, I told you, apart from your academic work, you have to take co-curricular activities seriously and I must say that management is appreciative of your role as far as discipline is concerned. You have done well.

Those who are going out, what I want to say is that take your exams seriously because by virtue of this training you will not suffer to join the security services”, he encouraged.

The Outgoing Commander of the Bongo Senior High School Fire Cadet Corps, Aliya Nademe Apagiwena, said they remained committed to the values of the Cadet and the school as he appeals for the retooling of the cadet corps to make their younger brothers and sisters more efficient.

“We took an oath to be true to the objectives of the cadet corps. We formed our own automatic drills because we don’t have an instructor. I plead and believe that our hardworking Headmaster will ensure they get tools such as riffles, uniforms and also get them an instructor”, he appealed.

The new command led by Victor Apana pledged to help maintain discipline as they hope to go beyond the achievements of their predecessors. The new command made this known in an acceptance speech which was read by Abigail Tikaha.

“Our outgoing cadet corps members helped to maintain discipline and we also pledge to improve the level of discipline in the school and pray that we will achieve more than they did for the progress of the school”, they assured.
