Argentine prosecutors are investigating Diego Maradona’s doctor for a possible manslaughter following the footballing legend’s death four days ago.
The 60-year-old Argentina and Napoli legend died of a reported heart attack at his home this week, where he was recuperating following successful surgery to remove a blood clot on his brain earlier in November.
Police in Buenos Aires have searched the house and private clinic of Dr. Leopoldo Luque as they try to establish a possibility of negligence in Maradona’s treatment following surgery.
There are suspicions that the star’s convalescence at home might not have met the conditions of his discharge from the clinic, such as a 24-hour team of nurses “specialized in substance abuse”, the on-call presence of doctors and a stand-by ambulance equipped with a defibrillator.
Diego Maradona’s doctor however insists that he has “nothing to hide” and is “proud” of the treatment he administered to the late football legend.
Dr. Luque also stressed that he is co-operating with the authorities and that he had did his best for Maradona until the very end.
However, there has been a huge, nationwide outpouring of sympathy for the much-loved Maradona following the death of the man who captained Argentina to World Cup glory in 1986.
