President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has congratulated the senior national team, the Black Stars for qualifying for the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar.
The Black Stars of Ghana booked a place in the 2022 FIFA World Cup tournament after holding the Super Eagles of Nigeria to a 1-1 draw at the Moshood Abiola National Sports Stadium in Abuja on Tuesday, March 29, 2022.
Ghana took an early lead in the second leg of the crucial World Cup Qualifier playoff match but Nigeria equalized through a penalty.
The Super Eagles’ equalizer, however, could not stop the Black Stars from qualifying for the tournament as they needed just a goal draw to make it to the World Cup for the 4th time.
In a telephone conversation with coach of the team, Otto Addo shortly after the match, President Akufo-Addo, who was visibly excited, said the qualification of the team for the global football tournament on his birthday is the best present he has been given on such an important of his life.
“The best possible birthday present could have had is the news of your qualification for the World Cup. It is excellent. The whole country (is in a jubilant mood). I don’t know if people will sleep tonight. Congratulation to you and all the boys,” he said.
