Former Special Prosecutor, Martin Amidu has accused president Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo of exhibiting partiality in the fight against corruption in favor of members of his party and government.
In his 27-page response to the president, Martin Amidu alleged that president Akufo-Addo has refused to interdict the Municipal Chief Executive of Bawku who is standing trial for allegedly breaching procurement laws despite the interdiction of her alleged accomplices.
Mr. Amidu claimed he had insistently appealed to the president to take steps to ensure Hajia Hawa Ninchema’s interdiction and her subsequently vacation of her post so as to vindicate the president’s avowed commitment to the fight against corruption.
But the president, he noted, blatantly refused to take any action in that regard.
Mr. Amidu, who wants president Akufo-Addo to justify to the Ghanaian people his refusal to take necessary action against his appointee, believes the president’s failure to indict the MCE for Bawku Municipal is an indication of his bias in dealing with incidents of corruption.
“Mr. President, kindly tell Ghanaians your reason for refusing to interdict or order the Municipal Executive for the Bawku Municipal Assembly to vacate her office, even on voluntary or compulsory leave like you unconstitutionally did to Mr. Daniel Domelevo, the constitutionally appointed Auditor General of Ghana, after my several pleas with you, and in spite of the fact that the first prosecution witness in the case gave his evidence-in-chief, was cross-examined and discharged on 12th November, 2020 in the case of the Republic verse Hajia Hawa Ninchema and 7 others. After informal communications with you to do so failed, I wrote formally to you on 8th September, 2020 attaching the interdiction of her co-accused public officers who had been interdicted in the same case. She is still working at her post when her co-accused who are also citizens of Ghana are on interdiction,” he stated.
The former Special Prosecutor added that “this is just one example to remind you that you should not have unleashed your dogs on my integrity as being responsible for the failure of the Special Prosecutor in the fight against corruption under your presidency. How could I succeed when this single example shows that my former ‘ANTI-CORRUPTION MOSES’ failed me anytime his ox was gored like in the Agyapa Royalties Transactions anti-corruption assessment report.”
While accusing the president of masterminding attacks on his integrity, Mr. Amidu said the persons standing trial alongside Madam Ninchema are likely to be acquitted and discharged as result of the alleged injustice perpetrated by the president.
“It would come as no surprise to me when all the accused persons in the two pending corruption cases in the High Court since March 20191 left behind are acquitted and discharged after my resignation. Bawku where I grew up and the people of Bawku know the president’s corrupt partisan injustice that she is at post even today while the other public officers are on interdiction,” he said.
