A group of Voltarians based outside the Volta Region and members of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) known as The Volta Caucus have admonished Professor Kwamena Ahwoi to withdraw his ‘Working with Rawlings’ book which led to raging controversy in the NDC.
The group believes the withdrawal of the book, which former President Rawlings described as distortion of facts and an attempt to paint a denigrating picture of him and other members of his regime, would ensure that peace prevail in the party.
The group in a statement signed by its national executives and regional chairmen said it is saddened by the controversies that has been raging in the party and among its members at a time that the party needs all of its members to wrestle power from the governing New Patriotic Party (NPP) as result of the book’s content.
Describing the significance of the 2020 elections and the need for the NDC to unite to ensure victory for the party, it said Ghanaians are yearning for the NDC to rescue them from the treachery and misrule that have characterized the Nana Akuf-Addo government.
While eulogizing former President Jerry John Rawlings’ contribution to the development of the country, the group appealed for cool heads to prevail in the party.
“It is the ungrudgingly suggestion of the Volta Caucus group that Prof Kwamena Ahwoi humbly withdraws the book since the claimed inaccuracies have now become source of the raging controversy. It is in the greatest interest of the NDC and Ghana that we are seeking this and anticipating peace will prevail,” excerpts of the statement read.
Prof. Kwamena Ahwoi, an appointee of ex-president Rawlings’ regime, launched a book titled ‘Working with Rawlings’ which chronicles his experience serving under the Rawlings’ regime and being a leading member of the NDC. The content of the book has since created controversy within the party which some say could affect the NDC’S chances of winning the 2020 elections.
The book gives accounts of events and incidents have been debunked by personalities who were supposedly involved in the said events or incidents.
Former President Rawlings in his disclaimer to the content of the book which among others alleged that he was undermining the candidature of Professor John Evans Atta Mills said Prof. Ahwoi “employs fabrications and grapevine accounts to paint a denigrating picture of President Rawlings and his colleagues.”
