Deputy Upper East Regional Communications Director of the New Patriotic Party Andrew Atariwini says the party may likely witness  sweeping changes to its leadership especially in the region.

This, he said, is because of the failure of the current crop of party’s leadership that resulted in the loss of its sole seat in the Upper East Region.

“why would you have a regional chairman who cannot protect the seat he got? They would want to ask, why didn’t we have a regional secretary to be able to stay and steer the affairs of the region? He abandoned us and went to seek for a position. And that didn’t really give us the result that we want,” he stated.

“He will answer that. They will ask us where the regional organizer was. He abandoned the regional organizing job that’s supposed to organize the entire region. He abandoned it.  He went to run. And in spite of all of that, nothing to show for it”.

According to him, the NPP had enough resources to prosecute a successful campaign to at least maintain the only seat it held in the 2024 elections.

But the inability of leadership to utilize the available resources to its advantage has left members agitated in the wake of the party’s humiliating defeat.

He added that the grassroots are further infuriated by what he said is the leadership’s failure to accept responsibility and apologize for the defeat.

Though they appear to be calm over the current state of the NPP, they are boiling with anger and waiting to express it through the ballot when elections are called, Atariwini envisaged.

“I don’t see a very excited party. And the party may be quiet and be tolerating for now,  just because they are waiting for the time to be able to express themselves on the ballot.”
