Power distributor, Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) has announced that it now has “a stable national power supply”.
This announcement follows days of consistent power cuts that affected mostly the cities of Accra and Kumasi.
Many consumers, who decried the situation, have been mounting pressure on the ECG to publish a load management timetable to enable them plan their daily activities.
But the ECG insisted it was a temporary challenge, which was being addressed, and there was no need for such a schedule.
However, the Public Utilities Regulatory Commission (PURC) found reason in the demands of the consumers and directed the power distributor to provide a detailed report of the situation and also publish a power outage management timetable within 7 days.
The ECG failed to comply with 2 out of the 4 orders including the publication of the timetable within timeline which elapsed yesterday.
But in a release on March 29, 2024, the ECG indicated that the situation has been normalized and urged consumers who are still experiencing power cuts to report to it as it believes any such outage will be as a result of a localized fault.
“The Electricity Company of Ghana wishes to inform our cherished customers and the general public that we have a stable national power supply (stable national grid),” excerpts of the release read.
It added, “Any customer who is currently experiencing power outage is due to a localized fault”.
