The Homeland Study Group Foundation, a group of persons seeking to secede from Ghana has accused political elements in Ghana of perpetrating violent attacks in the Volta region in order to tarnish their image.

According to the group, the recent violent attacks in that part of the country with the latest being the attack on the State Transport Cooperation (STC) in Ho makes them suspicious of the handy works of politicians in Ghana.

“We wish to draw the attention of the general public that the sudden spark of violence in our land is seriously against our working documents over the years and urge the government of Ghana to call his security operatives to order and release our people in detentions for several months now. We are beginning to have the feeling that some elements probably in the political landscape and looking at the periods in which we are might be perpetrating violence to smear our peaceful campaign,” the group said in a release posted on their social media page.

While condemning the recent violent incidents, they added that “we the front line defenders of the Rights of the citizens of Western Togoland, The HSGF, and all its various chapters and branches had no hands in the burning of the vehicles of the STC in Ho last night.”

They argued that though their demands to break away from Ghana still stand, the modus of their operations are non-violent and hence “our chairman has never miss his word about peaceful activism any time he has the opportunity to speak to the world.”

The Homeland Study Group Foundation (HSGF) led by 85year old Charles Komi Kudzordzi, is seeking to declare independence of parts of Ghana which they have named Western Togoland.

They are demanding to add the Volta Region, Oti Region and parts of the North East Region, Northern Region and Upper East Region to the Western Togoland.

Meanwhile, government has been encouraged to engage the separatists in a dialogue to resolve the matter, a proposal government is yet to consider but says it will not engage with the violent groups in the secession bid.
