Some Members of the New Patriotic Party and supporters of the Member of Parliament for Navrongo Central constituency Joseph Kofi Adda have predicted defeat for the parliamentary candidate of the party in the constituency, Tangoba Abayage.
According to them, the Navrongo Central constituency seat was won largely on the personality of Mr. Adda, a factor they have said is missing in the parliamentary candidate for the 2020 elections.
The livid Kofi Adda supporters further bemoaned what they have described as disrespect to the MP following his loss in the NPP parliamentary primaries held in June this year.
Speaking to journalists on the sidelines of a visit by President Nana Addo to the Chiana-Paga constituency Thursday, a known member of the NPP who doubles as the party’s coordinator for the Akumbisi-Gerebisi Electoral Area, Desire Ayariga said “the parliamentary candidate, Honourable Paulina Abayage, does not give respect to the incumbent MP. The chairman, the first vice, almost all the constituency executives, except just two of them, but the rest, they don’t even show respect to the grassroots. They sidelined us. They have hijacked the party.”
He stressed that the sacrifices made by Mr. Kofi Adda to win the seat and bring development to the constituency have been discounted by supporters of Ms. Abayage.
The Kofi Adda supporters in their numbers who were craving for opportunity to speak to press men expressed disapproval of the modus operandi of the Regional Minister who is parliamentary candidate of the area.
“We love our party and we wish to retain the Navrongo central constituency seat but we are sorry that cannot happen time round. It is too late. There were calculated plans to remove our MP and to disgrace him. We have to show that he has supporters. We cannot guarantee the victory of our candidate,” a member of the party dressed in party branded shirt said.
In what appears to be an electrifying applause and approval of Mr. Adda, the jubilant supporters of the Aviation Minister threw loud cheers when he was invited to speak at a durbar of chiefs and people of Paga on Thursday October 8, 2020 at the behest of the President.
