The Ghana Education Service has warned parents against stepping in to plead for their wards who would be punished for indiscipline and violent protest on school campuses.
According to the GES, it is appalled by scenes if videos making rounds, showing some students “who are not only demonstrating crass indiscipline but also making unfortunate comments about high profile personalities including H.E. the President.”
Reports of violent protests and agitations by final year students writing the 2020 WASSCE have sparked some level of shock and disappointments. Schools including Tweneboah Kodua SHS, Ndewura Jakpka Senior High Technical School, Bright Senior High School among others have recorded incidents of protests and violence by the students over what they have said are strict supervision, social distancing and difficult questions.
The Ghana Education Service in a statement signed by its Director General Professor Kwasi Opoku Amankwa and seen by dreamzfmonline.com said “Any destruction of school property will be surcharged against the culprits established to be involved. Instances where criminal acts have been committed sh6be reported to the police for investigation.”
While stating its resolve to ensure discipline in schools, the statement added that “Management of GES wishes to caution the general public especially parents that in its efforts to maintain discipline in the schools, pleas for mitigation will not be tolerated and therefore encourages all parents to advise their wards to maintain high sense of discipline and comportment.”
