Liberian President George Weah has extolled the virtues of the late former President of Ghana, Flight Lieutenant Jerry John Rawlings, saying Liberia remembers his immense contribution to the attainment and sustainment of peace in the country. He described the deceased former leader as a statesman and a great leader.
“On behalf of the Government and people of the Republic of Liberia, and in my own name, I wish to convey deepest and profound sympathy to the government and people of Ghana, the Rawlings family and the entire Africa for the death of a great statesman, Former President Jerry John Rawlings.
Ghana, Liberia and Africa will miss a great leader.
Liberia remembers his immense contribution to the attainment and sustainment of peace during our dark days of our own history,” he wrote on social media.
Former President Jerry John Rawlings died this morning at the Korle Bu Teaching Hospital after battling a short illness.
Ghana under President Rawlings played a pivotal role in bringing peace to war-torn Liberia through the deployment of troops, provision of a haven for peace activists among others.
