Reigning 3 Music Awards’ Artiste of the Year and signee of Lynx Entertainment, Kidi says although he agrees with the assertion by astute businessman, Sam Jonah that songs by current crop of musicians are uninspiring and do not make meaning, there is no need trying to change the trend since it is the order of the day.

According to Kidi, music just like any other aspect of the human culture evolves hence, today’s music cannot be same in terms of lyrical content and quality as the olden days’ music.

He observed that production of music and inspiration behind music lyrics as well as marketing and distribution of music have all evolved resulting into the difference between the current trend of songs and that of yesteryears.

“Yes it is true (that the songs now are uninspiring). When I listen to some of the songs by our dads, our grand dads, the songs appeal to my senses but you listen to the songs of today and they are just meant for jamming and partying.  So it is true but I feel like we shouldn’t try to fight the system. There was a time for rich lyrical content songs and it wasn’t just Ghana, all over the world. Everywhere you go, they keep saying that the olden days’ songs are better and timeless but we shouldn’t fight it. The world is changing and there is nothing we can do about that

There are a lot of things that are different now from then. Production was different from how it is done today. Now, we have software that is used for production but then, a lot of the productions were done live and the inspirations behind those songs are different from what inspires today’s music. Even the marketing and distributions channels are different now. There wasn’t social media then. So everything at that time was done differently,” he stated in an interview on Accra-based Hitz FM.

For him, modern day’s musicians can only take inspirations and learn from the old generation of musicians to better themselves but will not be able to churn out music of rich lyrical content like that of the older generation.

“We can try to get inspiration from the old songs and singers, let’s try to live to them and do some of the things they did but let’s not fight change. It is happening and there is nothing we can do about it,” he added.

Sam Jonah, while assessing the state of affairs in the country at a public lecture, bemoaned how songs by current crop of musicians are uninspiring and incomprehensible.

He stated “today’s music, well maybe I am too old, but one can hardly understand the lyrics or what they are supposed to inspire”.

But Kidi argued that although the current trend of songs are uninspiring, they served the purpose of entertaining the masses.
