The Vice President and Presidential Candidate of the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP), Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, has reiterated his dedication to completing the controversial Pwalugu Multi-Purpose Dam project if elected as President in the upcoming 2024 general elections.

During an engagement with the Clergy as part of his campaign tour to the Northern regions of Ghana, Dr. Bawumia emphasized the project’s significance, stating that it is a top priority for the NPP and the people of the region.

The Pwalugu Multi-Purpose Dam, estimated to cost $993 million has been a topic of discussion due to concerns about the government’s commitment to its completion after the sod-cutting ceremony in November 2019.

The Auditor General’s 2022 report further raised questions after revelation that nearly 12 million Dollars was paid to the contractor as final payment without any notable progress on the project.

Dr. Bawumia, however, assured that the project will be completed, highlighting its potential to bring 28,000 hectares of land into cultivation and generate electricity.

He expressed his personal commitment to the project, stating, “I was championing the Pwalugu Dam; we have not yet been able to do it, but by the grace of God, I believe we are going to do the Pwalugu Dam. It’s a major priority.”

The Pwalugu Multi-Purpose Dam has the potential to transform the agricultural landscape in the Northern regions, and its completion would be a significant achievement for the NPP government.
