National Chairman of the opposition National Democratic Congress Samuel Ofosu Ampofo has said the party does not trust the Electoral Commission and the country’s security agencies to deliver a free and fair election.

According to him, the posturing of the election management body and the security agencies demonstrates a grand scheme to intimidate the NDC and twist the will of the people.

With barely a week to the December polls, the NDC National Chairman alleged that government and the New Patriotic Party are cooking up plans to use ambulances and COVID-19 vehicles to perpetrate fraud and hidden agenda to win the 2020 election.

Samuel Ofosu Ampofo who was addressing party supporters after a march called the Probity and Accountability March in honour of late President Jerry John Rawlings and to protest against corruption and bad governance said “We have information that as we speak, they are giving pepper spray and other offensive weapons to people. On the day of elections, if you see a COVID-19 vehicle moving, be very careful because they want to use COVID-19 to perpetrate violence. So, if you see that kind of vehicle, let us be vigilant and see what is happening. If you see am ambulance blowing its sirens, wherever it goes just be vigilant”.

He stated further that “they intend to use ambulances and the COVID-19 vehicle to perpetrate fraud on this election. Let’s be prepared like Azumah Nelson going to Australia for a boxing match. We don’t have an Electoral Commission to trust. We don’t have security agencies to trust. So as party agents, don’t be deceived”.

The opposition National Democratic Congress has in the past questioned the credibility of the electoral processes leading to the 2020 polls. In their view, the EC has demonstrated bias and intransigence in the discharge of their duties.
