Chairman of the Kumbosgo Development Association has urged the Ghanaian elite, especially people from the Upper East Region to cultivate a passion for the development of their communities and villages.

According to COP Patrick Akolgo, who is Director General of Police in-charge Protection at the Ghana Police Service, even though government is doing its best to bring development to every corner of the country, there is the urgent need for citizens to support in delivering development to their communities, especially in health and education.

Speaking to the media on Saturday 21st November, 2020 on the occasion of the annual Anonkoa Festival, a festival celebrated by the people of Kumbosgo in the Bolga East District of the Upper East Region, the distinguished police chief and philanthropist called for commitment to development by all Ghanaians.

He said: “We have to individually play our roles and support government to do what government wants to do for all citizens of this country. We all come from individual places and we are all stationed. Some of us are in Accra, some are outside the country. Government is doing its best but there is still the urgent need to support especially in health delivery.

I have schooled in this area when I realized that, the whole area was poverty stricken. So when we schooled and got the opportunity and went back to work and God has blessed us in a way, we came together and realized that No! We cannot leave the destiny of our Areas to others. So we have come together as an association to help develop and that is what we have been doing.”

The event also saw the Kumbosgo Development Association solicit funds and other resources from sponsors in Ghana and in the diaspora to expand the Government-built CHPS Compound and also equip it with the relevant medical equipment, aimed at improving the quality of health service for the people of kumbosco and its surroundings.

The equipment include: a Motorking Ambulance, one Suzuki Motorcycle, modern hospital beds and mattresses , incubator, baby scales, two fridges, two Television set, among other important health services delivery equipment.

COP Akolgo also explained that the items were realized from the efforts of members of the Kumbosgo Development Association with him as the rallying point.

Receiving the items on behalf of the Regional Health Director, Deputy Director of Public Health, Dr Josephat Nyuzaghe, while eulogizing the Association, urged health staff to put the equipment into proper use and allow it improve their services to the community.

“If we are receiving all this support from community members, we can only reciprocate by putting in our best and ensuring that the health needs of community members are met”. He assured.

In his welcome address at the festival grounds, Chief of Kumbosgo, Naba Anabila Asuuyine expressed his profound gratitude to the Development Association and COP Akolgo for the numerous developmental initiatives undertaken in the area.

He was however confident that the celebration of this year’s Anonkoa Festival will also come with a peaceful election 2020 as he cautioned the youth against violence during and after voting.

The festival is an annual thanks giving event that is organised by the Chief and people of Kumbosgo to thank the gods for the previous year’s harvest.

It is also used as an occasion to solicit and raise funds to fund various developmental projects being undertaken by the community.
