VOTER EXHIBITION EXCERCISE
VOTER EXHIBITION EXCERCISE

Some officials of the Electoral Commission of Ghana (EC) in Navrongo were yesterday chased away by irate voters who were protesting against the EC for failing to provide a register at the Zuo Basic School Polling Station. The officials had to flee for their lives when the enraged demonstrators turned their anger on them.

According to the demonstrators, even though the EC promised to provide the provisional register for the centre before the end of the Voter Exhibition Exercise, it failed to provide even on the last day of the exercise and kept writing names of voters at the polling station on pieces of paper.

Mr Prosper Adongo who led the demonstration wondered why the EC failed to provide the register even after repeated promises. He added that chasing away the officials was justified because they were idle since there was no provisional register.

The EC conducted the ten-day voter registration exercise, from 18th September to 27th September 2020,  to enable voters check their details and effect corrections where needed.

The exercise has been fraught with incidents of missing names and duplicated voter identification numbers. But the EC has assured Ghanaians that no one will be disenfranchised and that the challenges will be promptly resolved.
