Management of Adom TV, a subsidiary of media conglomerate, Multimedia has rendered an unqualified apology to president Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo over the airing of a video on its platform in which the president is seen allegedly receiving a bribe.

According to the Twi speaking TV station, the video aired on its platform is a misrepresentation of the facts of an event which occurred in October 2016.

A statement released by Management of the TV station said it has come to the understanding that the content of the video has been fabricated to misrepresent an event of Akufo-Addo receiving a donation towards his 2016 campaign, when he was leader of the then opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP,) as an event of him receiving a bribe as president and has therefore apologized unreservedly to the president for any damage which he might have suffered following the broadcasting of the video.

“It has now come to the attention of Management of Adom TV that the contents of the video as aired does not represent the full story as it understands, which was in fact, a video of the then candidate Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo in October 2016 receiving a donation of GH₵40,000.00 for his campaign. Adom TV unreservedly apologises for any harm or embarrassment the video may have caused the President and admits that the publication was in error,”

While admitting that it erred for allowing its medium to used to broadcast a malicious video, Management of the TV station said it has taken down the video from all its social media platforms and has taken measures to avoid a similar occurrence in the future.

The video, which was aired on an NDC sponsored show dubbed ‘Nokware Mmerε’, on Adom TV claimed president Akufo-Addo was influenced by a bribe of $40,000 not to dismiss the Director of Urban Roads, Alhaji Abass Awolu.

In the video documentary purportedly produced by The Salis Newspaper, a voice purported to be that of brother of Alhaji Abass who is among a delegation, according to a narration, sent by Alhaji Abass is heard pleading with the president to disregard allegations leveled against his brother stressing that such allegations are plots by his detractors to dent his image and eventually ensure his dismissal from office as the Director of Urban Roads.

Afterwards, the president is seen receiving a hefty brown envelope which the narration claimed is $40,000. The voice purported to be brother of Alhaji Abass is heard explaining that the money is from Alhaji Abass who has been advised to take that step or risk being fired.

However, another video which involves same personalities and scenes but without the narration as contained in the documentary video has surfaced. The video, which the NPP claimed is the original video, suggest that the alleged bribe was a donation towards the 2016 campaign of president Akufo-Addo.

The supposed brother of Alhaji Abass who is not captured in both videos is heard rather talking about ways of assisting to effectively prosecute the campaign of candidate Akufo-Addo.

Meanwhile, the presidency has issued a statement refuting the bribery allegation against the president.
