The ravaging effect of heavy rains in the Upper East region coupled with the spillage of the Bagre Dam in Burkina Faso has led to a complete disconnection of the main Bolgatanga-Bawku road.
Reports gathered by dreamzfmonline.com indicates that no vehicles can connect to either Bolgatanga from Bawku or vice versa because the White Volta Bridge has completely been submerged under heavy flow of water.
Travelers on Monday morning were left stranded at the inaccessible bridge, leaving several cars parked on both sides of the road.
Speaking to dreamzfmonline.com, a private driver identified as Mbamaliya who met the shocking spectacle said the bridge cannot be seen.
“It is even difficult to locate the bridge. You can’t see it. No vehicle is coming and no vehicle can go. I was wondering why I wasn’t meeting any vehicle from Bawku since I started the journey. Only for me to get here and notice I can’t pass,” he said.
Reports from several parts of the region suggest similar situations with many resulting to the use of canoes.
Some residents of Anateem, a community in the Bolgatanga Municipality have also been displaced and have sought refuge at an uncompleted fuel station along the Bolgatanga Navrongo road.
