Donatus Akamugri Atanga, the Upper East Regional Minister is expected to return to the region today February 2, 2025 to officially begin work as head of the area.

Donatus Akamugri was among 14 Ministers-designate to be sworn-in to office by President John Dramani Mahama on January 30, 2025 after Parliament approved their nominations.

One of the longest-serving executive of the governing National Democratic Congress (NDC) in the country, Akamugri was picked by the President to head the region.

During his vetting on January 27, 2025, he pledged to prioritize conflict resolution, development of transport infrastructure and improvement of healthcare delivery in the region.

He is scheduled to be welcomed into the region at 1 pm today at the Wikongo Barrier, the NDC Communications Officer for the Upper East Region  announced on Friday.
