The Upper East Regional Minister, Donatus Akamugri Atanga has arrived in the region to officially assume office.
This follows his successful vetting and subsequent swearing-in by President John Dramani Mahama. Mr. Akamugri Atanga assumes office as minister after decades of service to his party, the National Democratic Congress (NDC), having played the role of a secretary for 27 years.
He has become the longest-serving member of the National Executive Council (NEC) of the party.
The Minister made an attempt to get appointment to the position after the 2008 elections and in 2012 but never got the nod. It is on this score that he urged party faithfuls, the youth and all residents of the region not to give up on their dreams if they do not materialize immediately.
He explained that not becoming a regional Minister on the two occasions did not discourage him from supporting the individuals who were appointed at the time.
Instead of getting discouraged, he said, he rather worked hard to get the party the needed support and seats eventually leading to the NDC securing all 15 seats in the region adding, his appointment speaks of years of dedication and patience.
“I want to appeal to everyone here that let us try to emulate what Akamugri has done because I tried the regional ministership in 2008, but I was not given. 2012, I was not given but I didn’t give, and never did I undermine those that were appointed. I supported them and worked harder than I was doing. So, that is why today, they have given me this position. If you’re doing a job and you’re not succeeding, don’t try to run away. If you persist, you will succeed. That is what my presence here symbolizes.” He encouraged.
He served notice that he will not at any point as a regional minister, entertain back-biting.
Mr. Akamugri Atanga stated that his doors are wide open to receiving ideas that will help in the agenda to transform the region and not backbiting.
“My administration is going to open and I will not entertain back-biting. What I will entertain is a positive contribution and I will be ready to receive anybody who will come in and contribute towards the development of the Upper East Region. I do not want us to distract development. If you have an idea, my office is open. It is none political.” He emphasized.
