BOARD CHAIRMAN OF THE GHANA TOURISM AUTHORITY, SETH AGYIE BAAH

The Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Ghana Tourism Authority,  Seth Agyei Baah, has attributed the centuries of slavery to the lack of unity among the then Gold Coasters. He believes that without any form of division, slavery would not have thrived for centuries.

Despite how disunity led to people eventually getting enslaved, he strongly believes that Ghanaians are still not united to fight a common cause and this is evident in modern politics as people are divided on partisan lines among others.

Speaking at the 2024 Emancipation Day at the Pikoro Slave Camp in Paga, the Chairman of the Board of the Tourism Authority, called for togetherness to fight the wrongs of the system.

This he believes when done will lead to desired development of the country.

“When the tour guide was taking me around, a lot of things came to my mind. I began to ask myself some questions because I was told three people had come to settle here to capture our people to sell them out. At that time if we were together and we were united, I don’t know if they could have done what they did but we were divided,” he stated.

“The same things that happened even in that time are still happening even while the chains have been broken. Whatever it is, we are one nation, one people, one destiny so we should be together to fight the wrongs of the system to build the Ghana and Africa we all want.” He emphasized.

Reading the Speech of the Upper East Regional Minister, Dr. Hafiz Bin-Salih, the District Chief Executive for Kassena Nankana West, Gerald Atawoge, said the Emancipation Day honors the legacy of the forebears as the country strives for more inclusion.

“Emancipation has the potential of showcasing the tourism potential of our region and our diverse culture and tradition that makes us unique.”
