RISE-Ghana, a non-governmental organization, has taken a significant step towards promoting transparency and accountability in governance by inaugurating an inter-sectoral committee to track the 2024 election manifestos of political parties in the Upper East Region.
This initiative, championed by RISE-Ghana, received funding support from Star-Ghana and the Commonwealth and Development Office (FCDO). The Inter-Sectoral Committee on Post-Election Accountability Mechanism will track the allocation and use of MPs’ Common Fund in the target constituencies of Bolga Central, Bongo, and Nabdam.
It will also conduct and disseminate inter-constituency ranking based on the fulfillment of promises. Key features of the platform include data visualization tools to illustrate progress on manifesto implementation and constituency development projects.
Citizens will also have a platform to provide feedback and engage in constructive dialogue regarding manifesto promises and local development initiatives.
The committee, comprising representatives from political parties, media personalities, persons with disability, and marginalized groups, will collaborate with the media to ensure widespread dissemination of information and raise public awareness.
During a press briefing, the Chairperson of the committee, Gladys Apuweni stated that the initiative aims to strengthen democratic processes and promote quality service delivery.
By empowering citizens with the tools and information they need to hold their elected officials accountable, this initiative Madam Apuweni emphasized, will contribute to a more transparent and responsive government.
“That the Manifesto Tracker and Constituency Development Initiative will play a vital role in promoting transparency, responsiveness, and inclusivity in government,” she said.
