Bolgatanga-based musician, Showbowy has said he is focused on making money with his music career and not desperate for awards.
In a post on social media, the ‘Juju’ hitmaker stated that although he believes he has not been given due recognition by award schemes for his works, he is unperturbed since awards do not fetch him money.
“Sometimes I feel some people are left out but we don’t care. I believe in making money than following trophies. Tomorrow, my children can’t eat trophies but can survive through properties,” he said.
He served notice that he will not hesitate to charge anybody who puts him on their show as he bent on reaping from his craft and building a brighter future for his family.
The musician urged his colleagues particularly those in the Upper East Region to demand payment for their services when they are engaged and stop rendering their services for free.
“Aside my fellow artistes even if it’s a funeral, I will still take money. My fellow artistes, you better wise up because (if you don’t), one day your children will ask you ‘with all your fame and name what did you put for us’. Don’t be a motivational speaker to your children. Don’t fear to charge them (event organizers). When they come charge them. You pay to record, you pay for your outfits, your pay for videos and you pay for awards too. Yet you beg to perform? Eiii! What kind industry be this?” he said.
His statement comes a day after organizers of the Happy Man Bitters Upper East Music Awards (HMB-UEMA) launched the 2021 edition of the award scheme.
The launching of the 2021 edition of the Music Awards took place yesterday, September 11, 2021 at GNAT in Bolgatanga.
