The Ghana Fire Service says it has recorded 96 incidents of fire outbreaks from November to December, 2024.

The number of incidents recorded in the 2024 festive season was a significant rise from the 66 recorded in same period in 2023.

“If you want to compare statistics, 2023,  November to around December, we recorded around 66 fires in total and this year (2024), we are recording already around 96 thereabout fires”.

DO II Callistus Nibunu, who disclosed this in an interview on Breakfast Today on Dreamz FM, said most of the incidents occurred at homes and in the bushes with the Bawku West District recording high incidents of bushfires.

He indicated that improper use of gasoline was a major cause of domestic fires in the period under review.

Though the service is “doing its bit”, the windy weather makes it extremely difficult to contain an inferno, DO II Nibunu said.

He advised the general public to adhere to precautionary measures including putting off fire after use and unplugging gadgets when not in use to help avert the situation.

“We are advising the general public to take every fire within this period very seriously. It doesn’t matter how small it is. So when you use fire, make sure you appropriately off the it before you can move to whatever you are moving to”.
