In the last few weeks, there have been intensified concerns being raised by some individuals over oxygen shortage at the Upper East Regional Hospital which according to them caused serious discomfort.
These concerns were equally raised on social media with some taking on the facility.
But speaking Monday on the State of Our Nation, Medical Director of the Regional Hospital, Dr. Saaniwie Aiden, explained that the facility saw an intense demand for oxygen in the past two weeks beyond their usual demand levels which it could not adequately respond to.
The situation, he said, was compounded by the breakdown of an oxygen plant in Zuarungu and that of Tamale which made it extremely difficult for them to get access to adequate supplies.
“Let me put on record that at no point did we run out of oxygen. At a point, that was the communication out there but that wasn’t the case. I was in the theatre on Wednesday and there was oxygen. What has happen has been that there has been challenges. We have had an unusual demand for the past two weeks or more. That demand has outstripped our normal supply and that cause us to be a bit destabilized,” he explained.
He called for public support to help in addressing challenges and advancing the need for improved health care at the hospital.
