The Ghana Fire Service in the Upper East Region says it had no available firetruck to respond to a fire outbreak that razed down an eatery in the capital, Bolgatanga.

Located along the Bolgatanga Stadium road, the eatery caught fire in the evening of December 26, 2024.

However, despite calling for firefighters to help douse the flames, the Fire Service did not respond, leaving the inferno in the hands of passers-by, who had no skills and equipment to tackle such emergency.

Speaking on the incident in an interview on the Breakfast Today on Dreamz FM,  Public Relations Officer of the GFS DO II Callistus Nibunu said there was no available firetruck to respond to the fire outbreak.

According to him, at the time the distress came in, the Bolgatanga Station’s firetruck was somewhere in Tongo in the Talensi District fighting another outbreak as the vehicle for that district was out of service.

The nearby Bongo District Fire Station’s firetruck, he added, was also dysfunctional, leaving them with no vehicle to fight the fire in the regional capital.

“At the time, Tongo was off, Bongo was off and so the nearest station they could call was Bolga Municipal Fire Station,” he stated.

“And so we attended the fire when the call also from that Chop Bar came in and at the time, there was no vehicle around because Bongo was down.”

He, however, indicated that the Service is investigating the incident and making frantic efforts to repair the dysfunctional firetrucks.
