Chinese mining Company Earl International Group Ghana Gold Limited has announced that it has begun the construction of a 60-bed capacity hospital at Gbane in the Talensi District where it operates.

The announcement was made by Assistant Public Relations Officer of the company Albert Azongo during a working visit to its Gbane mines by national and regional branch leaders of a advocacy civil society organization BONABOTO.

The visit by the CSO’s  leadership was part of BONABOTO’s strive for development of the Upper East Region.

A union of citizens from Bolgatanga, Nabdam, Bongo, and Tongo, BONABOTO is an international organization with branches in the United States and the United Kingdom. Over the years, the organization has gained recognition for its advocacy work in developing the Upper East region and influencing policy changes through engagements with governments and policymakers.

The delegation, led by National President Professor Samuel Atintono, met with Earl Group’s management to establish a stakeholder partnership for mutual growth and benefits between the mining establishment and the Upper East region.

Professor Atintono acknowledged the significant contributions of mining companies to the region’s economic and social growth. He emphasized the need for partnerships to harness the mining sector’s potential for regional development.

Atintono expressed delight at Earl’s significant investments in Gbane and urged the company to develop host communities and extend support to other regional areas.

“We are glad to see the significant investments you’ve made here. The structures you’ve built could even be converted into a university in the future. We also appreciate the school you’ve built, which is a vital contribution to education in this area. We advocate for education and urge you to do more for the communities,” Professor Atintono said.

He noted that the company’s labor strength indicates a significant impact on youth employment, especially in the Talensi District.

According to Assistant Public Relations Officer Albert Azongo, Earl International Group Ghana Gold Limited paid over GHS 23 million in royalties to the Ghanaian government in 2023 and GHS 28.1 million in 2024. This represents a significant increase from GHS 8.9 million in 2022.

In 2024, the company also paid GHS 10.3 million in Pay As You Earn (PAYE) taxes.

Azongo added that the company has begun the construction of a hospital as part of its contribution to the improvement of the welfare of the people.

When completed, the facility will serve the health needs of residents of Gbane and surrounding communities.

Earl’s General Manager, Li Jianguo, thanked BONABOTO for their visit and expressed the company’s willingness to partner with stakeholders for mutual growth.

The delegation, comprising national and regional executives and Council of Elders, was conducted on a familiarization tour of Earl’s mining operations area.
