The Upper East Regional Branch of the Old Vandals Association, as part of their desire to deliver service to mankind, has donated GH¢15,000 to authorities at the Upper East Regional Hospital as their contribution to the establishment of the hemodialysis center at the facility.
Led by its Life Patron, Commissioner of Police (retired) Patrick Akolgo, the Old Vandals presented the payment slip of the said amount to the regional hospital administrators.
Old Vandals are past students of the University of Ghana, who once resided at the Commonwealth Hall of Ghana’s premier University. They are said to be the voice of the voiceless, who oppose oppression, injustice, and various forms of ills by equally helping the needy and vulnerable.
It is on this score that the regional branch found it prudent to donate GH¢15,000 to help operationalize a dialysis center at the regional hospital.
Work to operationalize the dialysis center at the hospital reached an advanced stage with authorities currently conducting the final phase of testing to commence operations soon.
COP Akolgo explained that the setting up of the facility comes as a huge relief to the region since people struggling with kidney disease currently have to seek care outside the region. He described the setting up of the specialized unit as a necessity.
“This is Old Vandals Association, Upper East branch and you know what we represent. We stand in for society, service to mankind, and everything. So, when this project in Bolga came up, we decided to contribute to support because we all know how important this dialysis center is. We are sending cases to other regions but this will be a huge relief. And like the administrator said it will serve people from the North East Region and other countries near us.” He stated.
The Regional President of the Old Vandals Association, Raymond Akolbire, described the absence of the dialysis center as a significant gap in health delivery as he appealed to others to support the establishment of the facility.
“This is an important gap in the health sector in this region that we are also appealing to other groups to support and we are sure that the resources are being used to do the actual work and we want to thank all Old Vandals in the region for their generous contributions”.
Medical Director of the Regional Hospital, Dr. Saaniwie Aiden, noted that the facility is going through the final phase of mandatory testing and will in the not-too-distant future be put to use.
