Health Minister, Bernard Okoe-Boye says government is working around the clock to ensure that, at least, 3 of the 8 projects under the agenda 111 facilities in the Upper  East Region will be completed and operationalized by the end of the year.

Government, in April 2020, has announced an ambitious plan to construct 88 district hospitals to address the health needs gap exposed by the COVID-19 pandemic.

The number was later increased to 111 including  101 district hospitals, 7 new regional hospitals, two specialized hospitals in the middle and northern belt and the renovation of the Effia-Nkwanta Regional Hospital.

8 of these health infrastructure are being sited in a number of districts in the Upper East Region.

The beneficiary administrative areas include Builsa South, Nabdam, Bolga East, Binduri, Garu, Pusiga, Bolgatanga East and Kassena Nankana West Districts.

Speaking during the commissioning of rehabilitated Upper East Regional Hospital, Dr.  Okoe Boye expressed hope that, at least,  3 out of the 8 facilities will be operationalized by the end of the year.

“We are working around the clock to make sure that at least three of these eight projects in the Upper East Region will be personalized before the end of the year,” he said.

He also highlighted  the impact the rehabilitated facility would have on healthcare delivery in the region, stating that the hospital can now cater for advanced medical needs of residents.
