Flagbearer of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) John Dramani Mahama has expressed gratitude to the people of the Central Region for giving the NDC yet another vice presidential candidate, assuring them of their fair share of the national cake if the NDC wins the upcoming general elections.
John Mahama, who is on a campaign tour of the region in a video posted on his social media handles, said he was excited to be in the Central Region, a region of former President John Evans Atta-Mills.
“And being the region of our late President John Evans Atta-Mills, we are excited to be here. And we thank the Central Region for another running mate, a very intelligent woman, Professor Jane Naana Opoku-Agyemang. And we believe that the Central Region has a lot of potential to continue to its contribution to the economic growth of Ghana. And we are going to make sure that the Central Region gets its fair share of the national cake,” he stated.
The former President is on a five-day campaign tour of the Central Region as part of his electioneering campaign for the upcoming general elections.
The Central Region and NDC’s Running Mates
The Central Region has ‘produced’ four running mates for the NDC:
Ekow Nkensen Arkaah partnered former President Jerry John Rawlings in the 1992 elections. They won. And Mr Arkaah served as Vice President from 1993 to 1997.
Late President John Evans Atta-Mills was running mate to Jerry John Rawlings in the 1996 elections. Again, the NDC won. And John Evans Atta-Mills served as vice President from January 1997 to January 2001.
In the 2012 presidential elections, Paa Kwesi Amissah Arthur was selected by John Mahama as his running mate. The NDC won. And he served as Vice President. John Mahama has again selected Professor Naana Jane Opoku-Agyemang to partner him for the presidential elections this year.
