The pupils of Nafkolga and Tambiigu Junior High Schools in the Binduri District and Yakut Girls’ Model Junior High School are the latest to have benefited from the donation of sanitary pads by Dreamz Fm’s Sarah Teni Babohima.
Despite exhausting funds as part of her women in media award she received earlier in May 2023, which saw her donate to Gorog JHS in the Talensi District, Yorogo JHS in the Bolgatanga Municipality, and Sikabisi Junior High School in the Bongo District, Miss Teni went on donate to Tindongo JHS.
Following support from some individuals and her personal initiative, the Women in Media Icon on September 14, 2023, embarked on another pad donation spree that saw students of the three schools receive two packs of sanitary pads, a pen, and an exercise book.
In all, 20 girls from Nafkolga, and 33 from Tambiigu in the Binduri District received the support while 28 from Yakut Girls’ Model Junior High School benefitted from the initiative.
This brings the total number of pupils who benefitted from the donation of sanitary pads to 81.
According to Miss Teni, the continuous donation stems from her understanding that many young girls in rural settings appear to be struggling to maintain decency when menstruating.
It is therefore her hope that many parents will see menstruation as normal and make provisions for their female children to ensure they stay in school when menstruating.
She disclosed that some schools from the Kassena Nankana Municipality will soon benefit from a similar gesture.
