The Member of Parliament for the Talensi Constituency in the Upper East Region, Daniel Dung Mahama has expressed frustration over individuals allegedly mobilizing grassroots support for the National Democratic Congress’ (NDC) next primaries, just three months after the 2024 elections.

Speaking to Dreamz FM’s James Nana Tsiquaye, the MP revealed he received information from a trusted constituency source about these early campaigning efforts. Mahama questioned the motives of these unnamed individuals, suggesting they “do not have the party at heart, but [are acting] to satisfy their selfish interests.”

While not directly naming any potential challengers, the MP drew a striking comparison, likening the situation to “a Prince who wants to lobby for chieftaincy position,” adding that such a prince “intends to kill the father.”

“We just finished [2024] elections 3 months ago and people are going round assembling that they want to contest NDC primaries. I leave them to Almighty God, and the shrine of Talenteng,” Mahama stated.

The MP clarified that he doesn’t fear electoral competition but is concerned about the timing, arguing that potential candidates should instead support him to complete his four-year mandate. He urged party sympathizers to remain loyal until the NDC officially opens nominations for the primaries.

“Until then, it’s untimely for people to start campaigning three months after winning elections,” he concluded.
