In response to letters sent to various embassies by the Bolgatanga Municipal Assembly led by the Municipal Chief Executive, Rex Asanga, urging them to visit the municipality and consider pathways for collaboration, the Swiss Ambassador to Ghana, Simone Giger is the first to respond positively by visiting the municipality.
On her one-day working visit to the assembly, a presentation that centered on the success chalked and the dire challenges of the assembly was made to help her have a mental picture of developments thus far and areas for possible collaboration and assistance.
The Ambassador, led by Mr. Asanga and some staff of the assembly visited the Yebongo primary school in Sumbrungu where the learners are sitting on the bare floor due to a lack of furniture for her to see practically some of the challenges of the municipality.
They proceeded to a nearby CHPS Compound with the needed infrastructure to help her understand what is required in many of the other CHPS Compounds that were captured in the presentation as lacking the needed infrastructure.
The last point of call was the craft village to allow for the ambassador to have a fair understanding of the rich handy craft in the municipality.
Marveled at the variety of products on display, the ambassador almost emptied her purse buying many clothing and basketry products while indicating that it is her way of supporting the local economy.
She pledged to explore opportunities for future engagements and collaboration with the assembly.
Speaking to Dreamz News, the MCE, Mr. Asanga noted that the assembly wrote requesting various embassies to visit the municipal and is therefore delighted to have hosted the Swiss Ambassador.
“This visit was in response to a letter that we wrote to her in August last year so we are happy she came. She was interested in the DPAT projects so we did a PowerPoint presentation detailing the projects being carried out by the assembly.
We talked about the challenges facing education and health, especially the lack of infrastructure, and furniture among other so we decided to take her to the Yebongo CHPS Compound where they have the required infrastructure to see what we mean by others not having adequate infrastructure. The primary school is just next there, where there are classroom furniture challenges so that made an impression on her.
We finally came to the craft village for us to let her understand the variety of art and craft that we have in the municipality and area of possible support,” Mr. Asanga stated.

The MCE is hopeful that something positive will become of her visit.
