National Youth Organiser of the New Patriotic Party Salam Mustapha has admonished Youth of the party to support their favorite presidential hopefuls without excessive actions that can disturb the unity of the party.

According to him, the party stands to lose if the actions and inaction of the young people in the party result in deep injuries for the party after the presidential primaries.

As the NPP prepares to elect its flag bearer for the 2024 elections, stakes are high following the expression of interest of big wigs to be elected to lead the governing party in the next election.

However, Salam Mustapha believes that all persons who have expressed interest in the flag bearer position are qualified and competent to lead, hence every youth should be encouraged to support their aspirants in a manner that will secure and position the party for victory.

In an exclusive interview on Dreamz Fm during a tour of the Upper East Region, he said “We all know that we are going to have presidential primaries. I encourage the youth to support whoever they want to support. You have the right to [do so]. Let’s do it and exercise restraint and respect. Campaign for the person you want with decorum because at the end of the day we must all come back and support whoever is going to win and then move forward and prepare to win the next elections”.

He stressed that “We are all bound together, we are not different in anyway. Therefore, your love for a particular candidate should not make it a do or die affair to the extent that if the person doesn’t win then there is no party or you must insult everybody. If its Dr Bawumia you want, support him. If it’s Alan you want, support him. If it’s Kennedy Agyapong you want, support him. Agyarko, support him. Tell others what your candidate can do but don’t go and insult”.

As the governing party desires to win a third term, the National Youth Organiser intimated that realizing the aspiration to break the 8 will largely be driven by the youth wing of the party.

“Breaking the 8 is not an impossibility. I have been going round the country and I can say that the energy our youth are showing gives me motivation. We are going all out to tell the people of this country what we have done and to protect the sovereignty of our nation and make sure we break the 8,” he said.
