St. John Bosco’s College of Education in the Kassena Nankana Municipality of the Upper East Region admitted 432 students for the 2024/2025 academic year.
This number is out of over 2000 qualified applications received by the college. Out of the 432 students admitted, 242 are women, representing 54%, with males being 190, representing 44%. This is a significant improvement from the previous admission of 322 students.
This brings the student population to 1,572, comprising 760 females and 812 males.
The college offers 11 programmes in 6 departments including Mathematics/ICT, Science, Education, Technical/Vocational, Social Science and Languages.
Speaking during the matriculation ceremony on Friday, February 28, 2025, the Acting Principal of the College, Dr. Rudolph Nyaaba, says this academic year’s admission brings a new lease of excitement since the college has always desired to bridge gender gap in its admission and promote girl child education.
He is disturbed by the distribution of female and male students to the various programmes, which shows that few females are interested in the science and technical programmes.
Many of the females, he added, are into the social science programmes, a phenomenon, he says, requires the collective effort of stakeholders to improve.
“In 2023, the percentages were 52% women and 48% men. The 56% female students and 44% male students this year, therefore, offers us a good surprise of what we have always been targeting to achieve (50:50) female and male students. This further demonstrates the college’s commitment towards inclusivity, gender parity and girlchild education.” He Stated.

Addressing the matriculants, the Bishop of the Navrongo/Bolgatanga Diocese, Most Rev. Alfred Agyenta, urged the freshmen and sophomores to take advantage of the opportunities the college offers to improve their lives.
“What we want you to understand is that you are joining a family that puts the human at the center. I simply want you to take care and make use of this opportunity.” He charged the students.
