Reggae musician cum Radio Presenter, Abubakar Ahmed popularly known as Blakk Rasta has admonished young people in the country to abstain from engaging in sports betting, lottery and other forms of gambling as they are detrimental to their lives.
According to Blakk Rasta, sports betting, lottery and other forms of gambling are the most evil trades in the world and destructive to the lives of people. He added that no “credible” religious faith in the world approves of gambling.
He therefore advised the youth to refrain from gambling in order not to become addicted to them and destroy their lives.
“Betting/gambling is one of the biggest evil u can find. It is very disastrous to your being. My brother, my sister, I don’t know what faith you belong to but there is no faith on Earth that is credible that supports gambling. Gambling is evil. I don’t like it. So all these betting…bet this, bet that , they will not help you. Run away from that before you become addicted,” he advised.
Blakk Rasta gave the advice in response to a question posed to him by a listener of his show, Taxi Driver on Accra based Zylofon FM on Wednesday, September 30, 2020.
Buttressing his position against gamble, the reggae musician recounted that his uncle who was an addict of lottery spent all day analyzing lotto numbers and had always sworn on winning with the resulted numbers but had only won once in a blue moon. He said his uncle’s wins once in a blue moon encouraged him to continue staking lottery without making gains until his death.
He revealed that his friend who is also a gambler cannot make any savings as he spends any money he gets on gambling.
“In fact my uncle used to be a very serious lotto staker. He would work lotto from morning till night and swear on his life that the numbers he got will never fail and they will fail every time. He would win once in ten years and that one will encourage him to gamble his life away. He died a gambler,” he recounted.
“I have a friend who is a terrible gambler. Any money he has, he wants to gamble,” he added.
Sports betting and other online gambling have become rampant in the country. Most of the online gambling companies particularly betting companies operate without proper regulations since the mandate of the Gaming Commission of Ghana is not defined regarding online gambling.
The lack of online gambling regulation has become a course for concern for some Ghanaians as operations of online gambling companies are becoming detrimental to the lives of the teeming youth of the country.
