Vice-President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia has hailed Afua Asantewaa Owusu Aduonum, who is attempting a Guinness World Record.
Afua Asantewaa is seeking to surpass the existing sing-a-thon record of 105 hours set in 2012 by an Indian by name Sunil Waghmare.
Drawing inspiration from Nigerian chef Hilda Baci, who broke the longest cooking marathon record by an individual in May this year, Afua aims to sing hundreds of Ghanaian songs of different genres for 117 hours.
She began the attempt at 12 am on December 24, 2023 and is expected to conclude on Wednesday , December 27, 2023 by which time she would have surpassed the current record and set a new one.
Already, she has done more than 31 hours of singing. Afua believes her bid will help push Ghanaian music onto the international scene.
The attempt has garnered massive support from individuals and organisations, with many trooping to the Akwaaba Village, where it is taking place to cheer her up while others taking to social media to hail her.
It is also being telecasted live by leading media outlets.
In a post on social media in the morning of Monday, December 25, 2023, Dr. Bawumia eulogised the women’s rights activist, expressing confidence in her to make history.
He assured her of the nation’s support, encouraging her to keep on keeping.
“Your passion and talent shine brightly, and I’m confident you’ll definitely make history. Keep singing your heart out! We are with you,” the Vice-President stated.
