Chief Executive Officer of Charger Limited Dr. Emmanuel Bortey Borketey has expressed confidence in women’s right advocate Afua Asantewaa Owusu Aduonum to break the Guinness World Record for the longest singing marathon by an individual.
Afua Asantewaa is seeking to surpass the existing sing-a-thon record of 105 hours set in 2012 by an Indian by name Sunil Waghmare.
Drawing inspiration from Nigerian chef Hilda Baci, who broke the longest cooking record by an individual in May this year, Afua aims to sing hundreds of Ghanaian songs of different genres for 117 hours.
She began the attempt at 12 am on December 24, 2023 and is expected to conclude on Wednesday , December 27, 2023 by which time she would have surpassed the current record and set a new one.
Already, she has done more than 16 hours of singing. Afua believes her bid will help push Ghanaian music onto the international scene.
Joining well-wishers to cheer the 33-year-old mother of 3 up, Dr. Borketey assured her of his support, adding that he is confident that she will bring pride to the name of the country.
“I wholeheartedly support you and have full confidence that you’ll bring pride to Ghana and us all in this extraordinary venture”.
He added, “Go, girl!”
