The Ministry of Education has dismissed media reports of poor quality of food served students in the various Senior High Schools across the country.
A documentary by JoyNews highlighted issues of food shortages in SHSs, resulting in students being served with meals poor in quality and low in quantity.
But reacting to the JoyNews’ report, the ministry dismissed the issues raised in the report.
It claimed its visitations to some schools and interactions with heads and students reveal that there’s adequate stock of food in the schools and prompt release of funds for the purchase of perishable food items for the preparation meals.
It added that authorities and students are satisfied with the quality and quantity of meals being served on campuses contrary to the news report.
“Contrary to the narrative portrayed in the documentary, our visitation revealed the following key findings:”
It continued, “1. Schools visited and reports from other schools indicated the maintenance of an adequate stock of food in their storage facilities.
- There is prompt and up-to-date payment of funds allocated for the purchase of perishable food items to all schools.
- Feedback from heads of schools and students indicates overall satisfaction with the quality and quantity of food being served”.
The ministry said this in a statement signed by its Spokesperson Kwasi Kwarteng and dated March 3, 2024.
While indicating its readiness to rectify any “real anomaly found anywhere” and its commitment to ensuring the provision of adequate and quality food for the students, it cautioned the media to be fair, circumspect and responsible in their report.
