President Nana Addo Dankwa Akuf-Addo has sent a stern warning to individuals who fail to comply with the Covid-19 preventive measures including the mandatory wearing of nose mask in public places.
The president warned that individuals who fail to adhere to the Covid-19 preventive measures including the mandatory wearing of nose mask will be made to face severe sanctions which were instituted for such non-compliances.
President Akufo-Addo in his 16th address to the nation on measures taken to combat the pandemic stated that the security agencies would enforce strict adherence to the safety protocols by all.
According to the president, he has reliable information to the effect that people, especially in regions such us the Upper East where there is no active case of Covid-19, do not comply with the Covid-19 safety measures particularly the wearing of nose mask.
The president added that a new survey in the Greater Accra Region, where a previous survey indicated high compliance with the mandatory wearing of face mask, has shown that most people have ditched the wearing of nose mask in public.
Describing the non-compliance to the precautionary measures as an unacceptable, the president opined that the safety protocols must be made core commitments in lives and continue to be so until the complete elimination of the Covid-19 pandemic.
“Let me remind those amongst us, who want to continue to disregard these protocols, that severe sanctions exist in our laws for such persons, who will want to endanger the rest of the population through their actions and negligence. The law enforcement agencies will, where necessary, apply these measures without fear or favour, ill-will or malice, and without recourse to a person’s ethnicity, gender or religion,” the president stated in a televised broadcast.
Ghana has recorded as at Friday, August 28, 2020 over 44,000 Covid-19 cases with a death toll of 276 since the outbreak of the pandemic in the country.
The country is, however, witnessing a remarkable recovery rate which has led to the active cases of the disease reducing drastically to 1,059.
Acknowledging the success the country chalked in the fight against the pandemic, the president admonished the general not to become complacent in adhering to the preventive measures.
