The Upper East Regional Chairman of the Coalition of Concerned Teachers (CCT), Richard Yinbil Sunday has asked WAEC to scrap its centers known for examination malpractices in Ghana especially the Remedial Centers.

He said, WASSCE is not supposed to be an avenue for ‘chew, pour and pass’ but one to properly assess students after acquiring the needed knowledge to practically better their lives after school.

His comments come on the back of allegations made by the Executive Director of Africa Education Watch, Kofi Asare that the Food and Nutrition paper 3 of the ongoing WASSCE was leaked on social media before the students got hold of them, a claim WAEC has debunked.

Speaking on Breakfast Today’ Programme on Dreamz FM, Mr. Sunday said “the situation of examination malpractice is becoming worst and if care isn’t taken, the quality and credibility of our examining bodies and the country’s Educational system would be completely compromised.”

He, therefore, urged WAEC to deny some schools examination centers especially ‘high profit making’ remedial schools who by hook or crook buy and leak examination questions for students to have excellence records.

On the matter of huge failure in the October 2020 Teacher Licensure Examination, Mr. Sunday is disturbed over what he described as the politicization of Ghana’s educational system.

Education Minister, Yaw Osei Adutwum, was unhappy over the high failure in the recent licensure examination, despite lowering of the pass mark.

Out of the 27,455 candidates who sat for the 2020 teacher licensure examination, 8,442 failed to meet the pass mark.

The number represents 30.7% of the total candidates who sat for the exams in October last year.

But Mr. Sundays questioned the basis and criteria used to lower the marking scheme for the examination.

He said “Authorities should not take students and Education for granted, because there wasn’t any further clarification for such actions by National Teaching Council” the body mandated to steer the affairs of the examination.

He, however, urged his colleague teachers to take advantage of the available ‘study leave’ and other conducive platforms to upgrade themselves in the whiles in the profession
