Two persons have been confirmed dead in an accident involving a Kumasi bound bus from Garu in the Upper East region.
The accident which occurred at about 11:00pm on Wednesday also left over 20 passengers injured with 11 in critical conditions.
Confirming the incident to Dreamz fm, the District Chief Executive for Garu District Mr. Emmanuel Asore said the bus with registration number GR 7287-21 burst a tyre and veered into the bush, crashing down trees and eventually landing in a near ditch at Sarikura, a community near Buipe in the Savannah region.
He disclosed that some of the victims have been transferred to the Tamale Teaching Hospital while the dead are being transported to Garu for burial.
“Another Garu-Kumasi bound bus got another accident again, right at the spot where the last accident occurred two weeks back. I quickly put myself in order and I rushed to the scene at Buipe. To our dismay, it was a very fatal accident. The tyre got burst early dawn and run into many trees, uprooting them. So many passengers got seriously injured. Two people are confirmed dead at the moment. So we are helping to get support for those who are wounded critically. About six have been referred to Komfo Anokye hospital and five others taken to the Tamale Teaching hospital. We have arrangements and ambulances have carried the injured to their respective destinations while we have made arrangements for the those who died to be taken and they are on their way to Garu for burial,” The DCE said.
The Wednesday night accident comes after series of others involving Garu-Kumasi bound buses with 19 persons killed on February 3, 2021 in a similar incident.
The accident reportedly occurred when two buses – one conveying passengers from Kumasi to Garu and the other from Zebilla to Kumasi collided.
Also, at least 10 persons including six children died in a gory accident at Nasia, a suburb of Walewale in the North East Region on January 26, 2021 involving another 45-seater Garu bound bus from Kumasi.
