MOSES AMOAH. NPP's Constituency Secretary for Navrongo Central

The Navrongo Central Constituency Secretary of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) Moses Amoah says Upper East Regional Minister-Designate Donatus Akamugri Atanga’s performance before the Appointments Committee of Parliament was below par.

Speaking on Breakfast Today on Dreamz FM on January 28, 2025, Amoah argued that Donatus Akamugri gave unsatisfactory responses to some of the questions asked and seemed not to be on top of the pertinent issues critical to the development of the region.

“His performance yesterday, to some extent, did not add up. It was below average,” he said.

The NPP Constituency Secretary said he was impressed with the nominee’s “bold” proclamation of his traditional religious faith and his choice of traditional attire to the occasion, which he said portrayed the culture of the region, and his sense of humour in answering questions as well as his honesty in responding to the Bawku conflict question.

However, he insisted his performance was “below average”.

He criticized Akamugri’s answer on child marriage, stating that the Minister-Designate did not demonstrate appreciation of the gravity of the matter and as result, failed to proffer cogent measures to deal with it if he is approved Regional Minister.

“You think the people giving out their children for child marriages, you think they don’t that it is not good to do what they do? They know.”

“So, what you need to do is to add some punitive measures”.

His response on retaining health workers in the region was also not impressive, Amoah added.

According to him, instead of merely proposing training health workers from the place and deploying them to health facilities, he should have suggested incentives to keep them in the region.

“Probably, he doesn’t understand the issue.” “Akamugri should have spoken about the issues that would keep the people here instead of saying that merely training people from here. You can train somebody from here and when he finishes and he wants to work or works for some few years or days, he runs away,” he stated.

Amoah also described Akamugri’s response that he was not “abreast of” the Upper East Region Water Supply Project inaugurated by former President Akufo-Addo as dishonest.
