The Communication Officer of the governing National Democratic Congress in the Bongo Constituency has described the immediate past District Chief Executive (DCE) for the area Rita Atanga as the “most incompetent person I’ve ever seen in my life”.

Speaking in an interview on Breakfast Today on Dreamz FM yesterday, Edward Abesiwine Asekere said the former DCE performed abysmally during her four stint as head of the district.

Although she had zero knowledge on the management of such complex governance structure, she could have made a mark if she had sought guidance from experienced workers at the assembly, he noted.

He, however, claimed she turned a deaf ear to wise counsel, leaving the district stagnant in the last four years

“She’s so incompetent.  I’ve worked with her. You know we approved her.

She will not listen to anybody.  Once she has the power to represent the president, she was so powerful. Not even at the regional level executives, she didn’t respect anybody even within their party because she had the powers from the presidency.”

He added, “so, she came and failed the people of Bongo. Under her watch, Bongo  development deteriorated, you know.”

And so, her level of incompetence so, so damning,

When Rita Atanga was nominated,  Edward Asekere said their side of the assembly rally support for approval of her nomination with the hope that she will leverage her connection to the presidency to develop the area.

But she failed not only to take advantage of her connection but also to fulfil her promise to ensure a prompt payment of assembly members’ ex-gratia.

Unlike her predecessors, Asekere said the former DCE left no legacy.

“I remember Peter Ayinbisa left, with, depart got about one point something million Ghana cedis

That was what Rita used in drilling. But when she came, tell us, when you were leaving, what did you leave behind? Because we didn’t have Presiding member. We didn’t call meetings. No assessment were done. And so Bongo lost.”

Rita Atanga was appointed DCE for the area in the second term of the Akufo-Addo administration. Her tenure witnessed cracks within the assembly deepened, resulting in several failed attempts to elect a Presiding Member.

One of such attempts turned into violent confrontations among members.
