Authorities at Ndewura Jakpa Senior High Technical School in Damongo in the Savannah Region have resolved to block the results of final year students of the school until they pay a surcharged amount of not less than one thousand Ghana cedis.

The proposed fine slapped on the students is in response to the destruction of school property by the students who went on rampage in protest of what they said were strict supervision and social distancing in the ongoing 2020 WASSCE.

The students first destroyed the lightening system, plunging the entire school into darkness to enable them carry out their act.

Parts of the ceiling of a new six-unit classroom block that was handed over to the school to end double track were removed.

Addressing the students on Friday during a visit to the school, The West Gonja Municipal Chief Executive who doubles as Chairman of the West Gonja Municipal Security Council, Saeed Muhazu said the students would be made to pay the fine when they return individually to claim their results.

“It saddens me that such a thing has happened in Ndewura Jakpa Senior High Technical School. It is going to be a debt and scare on 2020 candidates of Ndewura Jakpa Senior High School. Government has done what it can do to put you in a situation that you have a better future,” he said.

He stressed that “When you are coming for your results, you are not going to come in a mob. You are going to come individually to pick your certificate and that is when the bill will be imposed on you and you will not have access to your results on the internet because the school will block it.”

An assessment of the extent of damage caused by the students has been carried out.

Meanwhile, calm has been restored to the school for continuation of the examination.
