Former president John Dramani Mahama has promised to provide social amenities and security installations in the newly created regions in a bid to fast-track development in those administrative areas if elected president again.
Taking his Building Ghana Tour to the North East Region, one of such regions, Mr. Mahama, who is the flagbearer of the main opposition National Democratic Congress, pledged to build regional health facilities, stadia, university campuses or full fledged universities and military installations in each of the 6 newly created regions.
He explained that it is the policy of the NDC that every administrative region has these facilities to improve the lives of residents and guaranteed their security.
The NDC, he said, is therefore committed to providing the aforementioned amenities if it is elected.
“NDC’s policy is that every region of this country must have a Regional Hospital, it must have a public university campus, it must have a sports recreation facility like a sports stadium.
So I want to assure the North East Region and all the 5 other new regions that these are facilities that NDC has committed to providing when we come into office after 7th January 2025,” he stated.
“Finally, all the 6 new regions are going to have a military barracks so that the Ghana army will be present in all the regions”.
He further pledged to ensure squad of a joint military – police anti-armed robbery unit, he intends to form, is stationed in the North East Region to tackle armed robbery.
“In addition, we are going to form joint military-police anti-armed robbery squad and one of those squads will be here in the North East Region to fight armed robbery”.
Mr. Mahama made these promises at the palace of the paramount chief of the Gambaga traditional area.
He noted that some projects, which constructions had begun during his tenure, have been abandoned after his government was voted out of office.
The former president has, therefore, promised to ensure the resumption and completion of those projects should he be elected.
