2021 Happy Man Bitters Upper East Music Awards Artiste of the Year, Nambawan has called out event organizers in the region for always billing their favourite musicians for concerts instead of those with the following and the competence to deliver at such events.
Speaking on Showbiz Hour on Saturday, the rapper said major concerts in region have flopped due to the penchant of organizers to line up their favourites for such shows instead of the right musicians.
This, he contended, makes the industry in the region unattractive for investors and could lead to its eventual collapse if nothing is done about it.
“Things like this (favouritism) really brings down the industry, they really take us back because at a point, you will need a particular artiste to make a great show but because of favouritism, you put another person on. At the end of the day, what picture does it paint?”
He continued, “Guinness would only come to Upper East Region because they know they have the numbers in the region. So if Guinness comes and they (event organizers) put the wrong people on-board and at the end of the day, the turnout is low, we tend to prove them wrong.
We tend to let them think ‘ah, Upper East, we’ve been all saying Guinness, we have the attention and at the end of the day, only 5 people come?’ The next time, they may not want to invest in the region. We would’ve lost an investor”.
He wants industry players particularly event organizers to put the interest of the region first by billing the right musicians for shows so as to gain the needed traction and investment for the industry.
