The Electoral Commission says the Provisional Voters Register, in its current, is more accurate than it was a month ago.
In a welcome speech at a televised IPAC meeting held today, Chairperson of the EC Jean Mensah said the commission devoted the past few weeks to improving the electoral roll.
“As a commission, we have devoted the last few weeks to correct the discrepancies and you will find that the provisional voters register today is different and more accurate than what was exhibited and provided to the parties in August 2024”.
She disclosed that the electoral management body deployed a rigorous 4-prompt approach to achieving the improvement and will continue to ensure the register is credible.
“It’s important to note that the commission, in cleaning the provisional voters register, employed a rigorous 4-prompt approach,” she stated.
The EC chairperson said this in addressing concerns raised by the largest opposition party, the National Democratic Congress (NDC) over the credibility o the voters register.
The NDC claimed the electoral roll is riddled with anomalies such missing names and illegal transfers that have compromised its credibility and therefore, is demanding a forensic audit.
But the EC rejected the party’s request for a forensic audit, describing it as premature.
Jean Mensa argued that such anomalies are not unusual and it is for that reason that the framers of the law put in place rigorous mechanism to address them when they occur.
She, therefore, wants all stakeholders to assist the commission to continue to deploy these laid down processes to rectify the anomalies and ensure a credible final electoral roll.
